2015 — 2016: Mathematics

Math Olympiad 2015-16In the aca­dem­ic year 2015/16 St. Peters­burg Uni­ver­sity togeth­er with Euler Found­a­tion holds the united inter­na­tion­al math­em­at­ic­al olympi­ad «For­mula of Unity» / «The Third Millenium».

School­chil­dren of grades 5–11 from Rus­sia and of equi­val­ent grades from all over the world are invited to par­ti­cip­ate. Par­ti­cip­a­tion in the com­pet­i­tion is free. Win­ners are invited to the Inter­na­tion­al Sum­mer Camp of «For­mula of Unity».

Inter­na­tion­al Math­em­at­ic­al Olympi­ad «For­mula of Unity» / «The Third Mil­len­ni­um» con­tin­ues two earli­er inde­pend­ent Olympi­ads: «For­mula of Unity» that took place in 2012/2013 and «The Third Mil­len­ni­um» that has been con­duc­ted since 2001. The united Olympi­ad organ­ized by St. Peters­burg State Uni­ver­sity and Euler Found­a­tion was first held in 2013/14 aca­dem­ic year. In the year 2014/15 it gathered more than 6,000 stu­dents from 15 countries.

The Olympiad is over!The award­ing cere­mony took place on June 18, 2016 at St. Peters­burg University.

This year, the qual­i­fy­ing round gathered almost 4,000 stu­dents from 16 coun­tries (includ­ing Rus­sia), of which more than a thou­sand passed to the final round. More than 250 chil­dren were awar­ded with dip­lo­mas of dif­fer­ent degrees for suc­cess­ful participation.

Final round is over

The final round of the Olympi­ad «For­mula of Unity» / «The Third Mil­len­ni­um» is over. The jury had star­ted eval­u­ation of solutions.

Pre­lim­in­ary res­ults of the final round will be pub­lished in March.

February 10, 2016

The round will be held in a num­ber of places on vari­ous dates between Feb­ru­ary 20 and 28  (see the file below). The round will last for 4 hours.

Par­ti­cipants of the 2nd round include the win­ners of the first round as well as all those who received dip­lo­mas for win­ning in the Olympi­ad 2013/14 (not includ­ing those with hon­or­able men­tions and dip­lo­mas for the 2nd round).

It is neces­sary to bring your pens and paper with you. The par­ti­cipants are not allowed to use cal­cu­lat­ors, com­puters, tele­phones, any oth­er com­mu­nic­a­tion tools.

Res­ults of the first round

January 22, 2016

The jury has com­pleted eval­u­ation of the solu­tions of the 1st round. The max­im­al score for each prob­lem was 7 points. To pass to the 2nd round, it was suf­fi­cient to receive 27 points for the grade R10 and 32 points for all oth­er grades.

The second round will be held on Feb­ru­ary 21, 2016 sim­ul­tan­eously in vari­ous sites (in some coun­tries the date dif­fers). The list of the sites will be pub­lished later. Besides of the win­ners of the 1st round, the win­ners  (awar­ded with dip­lo­mas) of the 2014/15 Olympi­ad are invited to par­ti­cip­ate in the 2nd round.

Here is the first (cor­res­pond­ence) round of competition.

Please remem­ber that your solu­tion of every prob­lem should include full reas­on­ing, and not only the right answer.

We will be happy if your friends who like math­em­at­ics also par­ti­cip­ate. How­ever, every work should be done per­son­ally; oth­er­wise, your paper will not be considered.

Please be care­ful with mak­ing up of your work, fol­low the rules and declare all neces­sary data. You need not include state­ments of prob­lems into your paper; please write down your solu­tions only.

You can write your solu­tions by hand and scan them or type them using a text edit­or. Solu­tions should be writ­ten in Esper­anto, Eng­lish, French, Ger­man, Geor­gi­an, Hebrew, Romani­an, Rus­si­an, Span­ish, Ukrain­i­an, or Viet­namese; use of oth­er lan­guages should be agreed with the organ­izers in advance. Your work should be sub­mit­ted not later than on Novem­ber 12, 2015. For anonym­ous grad­ing, you should not write down your name on the paper sheets with solutions.

How to sub­mit solutions

There are two ways to do it: «offi­cial» and «unof­fi­cial».

1. Offi­cial participation

With this option you can res­ult in receiv­ing a Dip­loma of the United Olympi­ad approved by the Rus­si­an Coun­cil of School Olympiads.

You should register on the web site of the Olympi­ad of St. Peters­burg Uni­ver­sity olymp​.spbu​.ru and upload your solu­tions via your per­son­al cabinet.

2. Unof­fi­cial participation

With this option you qual­i­fy as a par­ti­cipant of the 16th Olympi­ad «The Third Mil­len­ni­um» and not as a par­ti­cipant of the United Olympiad.
